I don’t believe celibacy/sexual abstinence is weird. In a culture that can encourage liberation it can also not have good boundaries. If you believe you have a soul which I do; then you can understand that when we engage in sex with someone we form a soul tie. This tie or these ties then create attachment and this attachment can be difficult to break if the connection does not work out or turns sour. Sex outside of marriage opens doors spiritually that our culture doesn’t always acknowledge or like to admit.
Choosing abstinence/celibacy has been a positive experience for me and I am closer to God because of it. I am definately not perfect as lust and sexual thoughts affect almost everyone but not being led into sexual connections even if under the guise of ‘romance’ has brought my heart so much peace. Outside of marriage it isn’t for me. I had to learn the hard way through ups and downs and emotional turmoil but years ago when I chose this; I knew it was what my soul and spirit needed more than any ‘liberating’ sexual experience. The pain I’ve experienced through the trauma I went through in connections was not of God but the enemy and I Praise the Lord for his protection over me when I chose this path.
